ResearchConnection and WellbeingKatherine ("Kibby") is a postdoctoral associate at Duke University, working with Dr. Zach Rosenthal in the Cognitive Behavioral Research and Therapy Program and Center for Misophonia and Emotion Regulation. She completed her Ph.D. at Duke University and her predoctoral clinical psychology internship at Weill Cornell/NY Presbyterian Hospital. She is interested in the science and practice of treating emotional and relational problems. In her clinical work, she uses cognitive behavioral therapy approaches to treat adults with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, misophonia, and personality disorders. Her mission is to help make mental health services more accessible to the public, such as through developing new digital interventions or communicating insights from clinical science through podcasts.
Her research addresses such questions as: 1. Can learning how to manage difficult emotions improve our relationships and social skills? 2. How can we predict and prevent chronic interpersonal issues, such as personality disorders or intimate partner violence? 3. How can we leverage technology to improve or complement traditional mental health treatments? |
PodcastA Little Help For Our FriendsA LITTLE HELP FOR OUR FRIENDS is a mental health podcast hosted by Dr. Kibby McMahon and Jacqueline Trumbull. The podcast sheds light on the psychological issues your loved ones could be struggling with and provides scientifically-informed perspectives on various mental health topics. As two Duke University clinical psychology Ph.D. trainees, Jacqueline and Kibby are learning along with you and share insights from their training on the relational nature of mental health. They mix evidence-based learning with their own personal examples and stories from their listeners. Episodes are a range of conversations between Kibby & Jacqueline themselves, as well as with featured guests including Bachelor Nation members such as Zac Clark speaking on addiction recovery, Ben Higgins on loneliness, and Jenna Cooper on cyberbullying, as well as therapists & doctors such as sleep specialist Dr. Jade Wu, amongst many others. Additional topics covered on the podcast have included fertility, gaslighting, depression, mental health & veterans, mindfulness, and much more.
